I met Mr. Jacky Ickx

My dream has finally come true: I met Jacky Ickx and shared with him hours that will forever remain unforgettable hours etched in my memory.

Mature and intact

We thought it was a good idea to ask Jacky Ickx to revive his last victory in F1, at the German GP, on July 30, 1972, so it is just 30 years ago.

End of career in F1

It would be very interesting to find (if any exist) one or more shots of the trials that Jacky did for Brabham in 1982. It is to my knowledge the last time we saw him at the wheel of a working F1.

The heroes of yesteryear were in good shape

It was the jubilee of the sacred monsters – the 25th Macau Grand Prix: Racing aces such as Brabham, Moss, Gurney, Phil Hill, Hermann or Hailwood showed us once again that they have lost nothing of their superb mastery of the steering wheel.

Original replica

Since always, like any Jacky Ickx fan, I dreamed of owning one of his helmets. Utopian dream since all these helmets were distributed to privileged people during or just after the racing career of our champion

The exploit of Jacky Ickx

Inspired by the revolutionary Lotus 72 designed by Colin Chapman in 1970, the McLaren M23 brilliantly extended the ideas of the brilliant British engineer. Thanks to the accuracy of its design, it enjoyed unparalleled longevity and offered a world crown to Emerson Fittipaldi and James Hunt.

Our recipes to win Le Mans

Fifteen victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans between them (Eleven at the time of this interview). Tom Kristensen and Jacky Ickx give us the recipes of their success in this mythical event.

Souvenir: I drove Jacky Ickx

When I met you for the first time, I stayed on site, without knowing what to do. This so famous smile, I had it in front of me. I had dreamed of this meeting and now you, called ‘Mr. Le Mans’, were there in front of me.

Queen of victories

Le Mans is a magical race. Jacky Ickx and this race have enjoyed together a love story over almost two decades. The climax of this romance dates from 1977. The race of that year is, according to Jacky himself, the most beautiful of his career.

A day with Jacky Ickx

On October 26, 2005, I received an email from my friend Marc Devillers saying me that Jacky Ickx chairs the RACB Renault Academy. Not being aware, I ask him for a copy of the press article and a few minutes later, I can read that Jacky will be in Zolder the next day. After a confirmation read on the RACB site, it’s decided, tomorrow I’m going to Zolder.

The circle is completed

Back at the Nürburgring for the Modena Track Days, two years after the accident I had suffered upon returning from the previous edition, I hoped to make the most of this event alongside Jacky Ickx, I was not going to be disappointed!
I arrived, in the company of Dominique Dreneau, on Monday around 9:30 am at the Eiffel circuit. Dominique tells the general atmosphere and his experience of these two wonderful days in his article ‘La tête dans les étoiles’.
