TRIBUTE TO ARTISTS - MICHAEL TURNER

Michael Turner was born in Harrow, Middlesex, in 1934. Raised in the suburbs of London during the Second World War, he was inspired by the exploits of the R.A.F. and developed a first talent for aircraft identification, drawing planes in his notebooks to the great displeasure of his teachers.
This enthusiasm for aviation finds a parallel passion in the thrill of motor racing after a vacation on the Isle of Man in 1947 where, by chance, he attends the first post-war race: the British Empire Trophy Race. From that moment on, with the indulgence of his parents, until he is old enough to drive, Michael attends as many motor racing events as possible, including the very first meetings at Silverstone and Goodwood, as well as Jersey car races.
His education finished, Michael spent a year at the school of fine arts, followed by two years of military service. Three years in advertising studios in London will provide him with solid experience and in 1957 he becomes a freelancer. He travels the main circuits of the world to satisfy his need for authenticity and continues to go to several Grand Prix every year.
He was an honorary companion of the Guild of Automotive Artists. So far, Michael has published six books of his paintings – featuring: the Royal Air Force Airplanes, Formula One, Luftwaffe Airplanes, Aviation Art, Monaco Grand Prix and Automotive Art.
Michael Turner left us in December 2025. He was 91 years old.
