Some months ago, the Saint Pierre College of Jette (Brussels) had contacted me because the pupils wanted to realize a project: to name every lane of the college as we name the streets of a city. Every lane would be named as a celebrity of Belgium, of whom Jacky Ickx.

I had thus been contacted to pass on the authorization request to Jacky Ickx, what I have done with pleasure. Thie inauguration of the project toke place on May 2nd, 2003. Jacky Ickx was invited there but unabled to participate because at that date he was in Egypt for the preparation of the Rally of Egypt 2003. Among other invited personalities, we found Henri Vernes, Toots Thielemans, Alain Hubert, Jean-Michel Folon, Xavier Malisse, Louis Michel, Axelle Red, Ingrid Baeyens and Philippe Geluck as well as various organs of press (le Soir and the RTBF – Belgian TV).

It is thus some days later that Jacky Ickx went to the Saint-Pierre college.

His contact with the children was extraordinary of simplicity, kindness and natural. He set of his time to speak with them and was interested in their work, encouraged them, advised them…

They shall keep all an immortal memory of these privileged moments.
